Quesnel’s G. R. Baker Memorial Hospital has closed its mental health unit, sent patients home and illegally locked out health workers.

“There’s absolutely no reason for health employers to deny mental health services to the community of Quesnel,” said Chris Allnut, secretary-business manager of the HEU. “Our members are ready and willing to provide this critical health care service.”

Management at G. R. Baker closed its mental health unit November 27 - sending two patients home and instructing HEU members on the unit that they should not report to work. HEU will file a complaint against the hospital with the Labour Relations Board.
