SPRINGHILL, N.S. - Home support (home care) workers in Cumberland County have given their union a 92% strike mandate.

CUPE Local 3953 President Kim Cail says, “We have a number of outstanding issues that must be resolved if we are to avoid a disruption in service. The two key ones are hours of work and benefits.”

The union represents 65 employees who provide home support services throughout the county with the Victoria Order of Nurses - Cumberland Home Support.

Cail says, “Three other CUPE home support groups have settled with their agencies, and received deals that were both fair and reasonable. We are simply asking for the same thing for workers in this corner of the province.”

The two sides are back at the bargaining table today.
