FORT FRANCES, ON Workers from Rainycrest Home for the Aged and community supporters will hold a rally tomorrow, Wednesday, December 8th, at 9:00 a.m., to protest against a proposal to contract out management of their workplace to Extendicare, a large for-profit corporation. The workers are members of Local 65 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE).

The rally will be held outside the home, where the board of directors will be holding an in-camera meeting to discuss the possibility of contracting out management services to Extendicare. Talks are also under way with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and Riverside Health Care Centre about a possible amalgamation of services with Rainycrest. The workers, along with supporters and concerned citizens, are urging the board to let Riverside manage the home in anticipation of the merger, and keep Rainycrest in public hands.
