Health workers join seniors, community activists in convoy for Medicare

On Friday, August 16, Hospital Employees’ Union members from the Fraser Health Authority will be revving their engines, lining up for the Caravan for Care and moving out from Chilliwack for the freeway drive to the Fraser Health Authority offices in Surrey.

News of the giant convoy is spreading throughout Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley communities. From Burnaby and from Chilliwack - and maybe from as far away as Hope and Boston Bar - health care workers, their unions, seniors, community groups and citizens’ coalitions will be converging on the FHA’s Surrey offices to protest cuts to health care services, closures of long-term care facilities and hospitals, reductions in home support and other moves from the Campbell Liberals’ health privatization agenda.

Bring your wheels, decorate your vehicles with messages and banners about the cuts to health care, and prepare to parade down the freeway.

Organizers have confirmed that the caravan will be “observing the speed limit” so the convoy can be maintained in an orderly fashion.

There is a poster to download from the HEU web site at heu.org. If you have any questions, please contact BCGEU Sister Ann Chambers at ph: 604-215-1499.
