HAMILTON Hundreds of Hamilton Health Care Workers have once again chosen the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) to represent them and give them a strong voice at the bargaining table. Members of CUPE Local 786 were among the thousands of health care workers who cast ballots yesterday. CUPE Local 786 President Mike Tracey paid tribute to the dedicated team of member organizers and staff who worked hard for the win. CUPE members spoke loud and clear giving resounding support to the Local executive. This will mean strength at the negotiating table.

CUPE overwhelmingly won the servicing ballot, chalking up over eighty per cent of the vote and more than doubled its five per cent share of the paramedical bargaining unit.

We ran a solid, factual campaign without the smear tactics used by the competing Union that made false accusations and spread misinformation. And members responded to the fair and honest CUPE campaign with their YES vote of support.

Yesterdays vote marked the beginning of Union representation votes at Hamilton Health facilities. More than 4,000 health care workers, employed by the Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation will cast Union Representation ballots on April 18th and 19th.
