HALIFAX, NS – School board employees represented by CUPE Local 108 (Unit 3) have ratified a new collective agreement with the Halifax Regional School Board.

The two year agreement was ratified on December 13, 2010 and is retroactive to August 1, 2009.

Along with a one per cent wage increase in each year of the contract, the local achieved significant advances in contract language, including:

  • Improved overtime language
  • Paid leave for union orientation 
  • Family illness leave
  • Additional day off with pay on Board Assessment and Evaluation days
  • Reimbursement for damage to personal vehicles and property

 
Local 108 (Unit 3) is comprised of approximately 800 support staff who work in the following classifications: community outreach worker, educational program assistant, early childhood educator, library support specialist (board-based and school-based) and student support worker.
