(Halifax) One hundred outside workers with the Halifax Regional Water Commission (HRWC) have ratified a new contract, which includes wage increases totaling 9%.

The members of CUPE Local 227 will receive 3% wage increases in each year of a three-year deal. The contract is retroactive to January 1, 2001 and runs through to January 1, 2004.

The deal also includes an increase in shift premiums and vacation improvements.

CUPE Local 227 members work in the HRWCs water and sewage treatment plants throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality.
