HALIFAX – Workers at Glades Lodge Nursing Home in Halifax have voted to take strike action to back their union’s contract demands.

The 120 members of CUPE Local 1259 voted 86% in favour of taking strike action if the parties can’t reach a negotiated settlement.

CUPE National Representative Peter Baxter says, “As well as the provincial common proposals this local has a number of important outstanding local issues such as sick leave and family leave.

The employer also has several concessions on the table which could prevent an agreement and may end up in a strike even if the provincial issues are resolved,” Baxter says.

CUPE represents dietary, laundry, cleaning, Personal Care Workers, LPN’S and maintenance workers at Glades Lodge.
