REGINA: The provincial government has proclaimed October 27 November 2 Community Services Workers Week in Saskatchewan.

The proclamation of the week helps to recognize the important contribution of community service workers who are employed in group homes, vocational training centres, child care centres, crisis services, women’s shelters, early childhood intervention centres and other community-based organizations.

These workers provide essential services to some of the most vulnerable people in Saskatchewan. Altogether, there are about 10,000 community service workers in Saskatchewan.

Minister of Labour Deb Higgins made the proclamation at the request of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Service Employees International Union and the Saskatchewan Government and General Employees Union, which together represent 1,500 community-based workers in over 60 different workplaces in Saskatchewan.
