Saint-Fl0069x-de-Valois, Thursday, February 6, 2003 Yesterday evening, the municipal employees of Saint-Fl0069x-de-Valois, affiliated with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), signed their first collective agreement.

The Union is very satisfied with this settlement, “This three-year agreement has created a win-win situation,” said Serge Leboeuf, CUPE representative. Among the gains obtained by the union members is a significant wage catch-up, including a retroactive payment as of January 2002, job security, and improvements in working conditions, particularly those concerning hours of work and child care.

At a general meeting on January 28, 2003, the members of CUPE 4446 voted 88% in favour of this new labour contract.

CUPE represents some 70% of all municipal employees in Qub0065c. In addition to the municipalities, CUPE is also active in 10 other sectors in Qub0065c including health and social services, education, urban and air transportation, hydroelectricity, provincial corporations and public organizations and communications. With close to 100,000 members in Qub0065c, it is the largest FTQ affiliate.
