Cranbrook, BCThe Fighting for Life tour will make brief stops in Golden and Revelstoke on Friday, June 16. Ambulance service issues in these Rocky Mountain communities include concerns about contracting-out ambulance services to Alberta companies, threats of downsizing, staff shortages and a general lack of trained staff who can deal with ongoing front line emergency medical needs in these communities.

The tour has been meeting with community representatives in BC since it began on June 5, 2000.

Well be stopping at more MLA constituency offices on the next leg of our tour, said John Strohmaier, President of CUPE Local 873. People weve spoken to at all our stops tell us they expect every single MLA to put energy behind resolving the crises in the BC Ambulance Service.

On Saturday, the Fighting for Life tour will visit the office of Sindi Hawkins, Liberal member for Kelowna before staging an event outside the Parkinson Recreation Centre on Parkinson Way in Kelowna. The recreation centre is the location of a fund-raising dinner for Premier Ujjal Dosanjh.

The Premier is the first line of authority in our current government, said John Strohmaier. The actions outside the event honouring him are aimed not only at focussing broad public attention to the very critical issues in front-line emergency medical service, but making it clear to those celebrating with the premier that they can play an important role in bringing this message to the attention of the premier and the entire government.
