Thousands of people protest against changes to Employment Insurance
Oct 29, 2012 03:19 PM On Saturday, October 27, thousands of people in Campbellton, NB; Summerside, PEI; Thetford Mines, QC; and Truro, NS protested against the negative impact of the Harper government’s changes to the employment insurance program on workers. Workers, representatives from groups supporting unemployed workers, union organizations, community groups, as well as NDP, Liberal and Bloc Québécois MPs assembled in the four provinces to demand an end to the Conservative attacks. CUPE Research Advisory - Changes to Employment Insurance
Oct 25, 2012 01:50 PM Today, fewer than 40 per cent of unemployed workers qualify for EI even though they are unemployed through no fault of their own. As a result of the Conservative government’s 2012 omnibus budget (Bill C-38), it has become even harder to qualify for Employment Insurance. Further, the process of appealing the decision has been changed to eliminate worker and employer seats on the appeals panels. more »
