Montra006c, Wednesday, March 26, 2003 – A meeting is being held in Laval today during which the 1,800 Vido0074ron employees from western Qub0065c will consider the terms of the agreement in principle concluded last week. The union executive is recommending that the members accept the agreement.

Although it is very important, today’s vote will not settle this issue. Some 400 other Vido0074ron union members in eastern Qub0065c will also be voting on the same agreement tomorrow afternoon during a meeting in Qub0065c City. It will only be then that we will know whether the agreement in principle will become the basis for a new labour contract for the Vido0074ron employees.

Vido0074ron’s 2,200 employees are represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE-FTQ) and are grouped within two local unions: CUPE 2815 has some 1,800 members in western Qub0065c, mainly in Montra006c, while CUPE 1417 has approximately 370 members in eastern Qub0065c, mainly in Qub0065c City.

In Qub0065c, CUPE represents 7000 members in the communications sector (Radio Canada, TVA network, Global, Radiomd0069a, Telus, Vido0074ron, Cogeco, NFB, Journal de Qub0065c, etc.) and is also active in several other sectors including health and social services, education, urban and air transportation, provincial corporations and public organizations, hydroelectricity and municipalities. With close to 100,000 members, CUPE is the largest FTQ affiliate.
