Montra006c, Wednesday, March 26, 2003 – At a meeting in Laval today, 1,500 Vido0074ron employees from western Qub0065c voted 77.6% in favour of the agreement in principle concluded last week between the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE-FTQ) and the cable distributor. Nevertheless, the file has not yet been closed. Tomorrow (Thursday), 370 other Vido0074ron employees will be meeting in Qub0065c City to vote on the same agreement in principle. It will only be then that we will know whether this agreement will become the basis for a new labour contract for Vido0074ron employees.

Legally, the Vido0074ron employees are grouped into two local unions: CUPE 2815 for western Qub0065c and CUPE 1417 for eastern Qub0065c. Even though bargaining is carried out jointly, there are still two separate labour contracts involved.

In Qub0065c, CUPE represents 7,000 members in the communications sector (Radio Canada, TVA network, Global, Radiomd0069a, Telus, Vido0074ron, Cogc006f, NFB, Journal de Qub0065c, etc.) and is also active in several other sectors including health and social services, education, urban and air transportation, provincial corporations and public organizations, hydroelectricity and municipalities. With close to 100,000 members, CUPE is the largest FTQ affiliate.
