Michelle Marrelli, a CUPE Local 3742 member, won a seat on the Prince George school board in a by-election June 23.

Michelle earned the respect of other parents as chair of district parent advisory council. In that role, she helped save the district resource centre and resolve a dispute regarding the rebuilding of a local high school.

She is committed to open communica-tions and honesty, said Marilyn Hannah, CUPE Local 3742 president. We were happy to support Michelle. Based on her past actions, we think she will do an excellent job.

Meanwhile in Tumbler Ridge, CUPE helped to elect Glen Steele to municipal council in a by-election on June 23. CUPE Local 2979 gave Steele their full support as did CUPE BC in electing a new voice for the people in the northern BC community. Steele is a former Steelworkers president, now a CEP member.

Our community welcomes a fresh view and a strong voice on behalf of all citizens, said Sean Shea, Local 2979 president. Glen Steele is that voice.
