Sun West School Division: School support workers in the Sun West School Division voted to ratify a new collective agreement this month, one that lifts all employees in the same classification to a common wage rate.

The agreement, ratified by an overwhelming majority of voting members last Monday, covers school workers in Davidson, Rosetown, Kindersley, Biggar and other smaller centres in the division. The school support workers include: education and library assistants, secretaries, caretakers, and bus drivers.

The nearly 300 education workers have been without a new agreement for more than two years.

In a separate vote, the majority of school support workers across the division also voted to have CUPE represent them in one, all inclusive bargaining unit.

The results of the labour relations board vote, held in April, were released on June 4. The vote means about 500 school support workers in the Sun West School Division will be represented by CUPE and covered by the same collective agreement.

The union intends to meet with the employer to work out the details of the new bargaining unit.
