EDMONTONCUPE 3550 members at Edmonton Public Schools have ratified a collective agreement with the Edmonton Public School District that gives members over 7 per cent in wage and benefit improvements over four years.

The union, which represents about 2,500 educational assistants, clerical staff, library technicians, food preparers, technicians and other support positions in the district, approved the agreement on Wednesday evening.

Local President Carol Chapman said she was happy with the deal, which allows for some wage and benefit improvements in a tough financial period for education workers.

When Premier Redford broke her promise of stable predictable funding for school districts, we knew we were in for a hard round of bargaining,” said Chapman. “We’re happy to have been able to find a way to fund some modest improvements for our members.”

The deal gives members three percent in wage increases over four years, as well as improvements in health benefits.
