Earth Day - April 22, 2011

Earth Day is a time for all CUPE members to take action in their communities to help make the world greener and more sustainable.

This year, CUPE National has upgraded its Earth Day materials. A new newsletter filled with current environmental facts supports two main actions directed at young people.

  • CUPE continues to run its Kids’ colouring contest but this year we have a new-look poster that anyone can order or print from this article.
  • CUPE has also added an email drive aimed at older students (grades 7 and above) that urges these students to write to the federal government to call for action on pressing environmental issues, such as climate change.

CUPE members can push for green actions in their workplaces by doing simple things like changing how you get to work and around your community, drinking only tap water, assessing your workplace’s environmental performance and many other steps.

The environment section of cupe.ca/earth-day is full of ideas to make changes for the better on Earth Day and throughout the year.
