Duhamel, Qc –The municipality of Duhamel’s 15 blue- and white-collar workers finally have their first collective agreement after joining the union on February 22, 2010. On April 5, workers voted 72 per cent in favour of the tentative agreement reached between the union and employer earlier that day. The labour contract comes after ten rounds of negotiations which started on May 26, 2010.

The three-year agreement runs from May 1, 2011, to April 30, 2014. Above all, workers will see significant salary adjustments, with the majority of employees gaining an extra 6 per cent and in a few cases, some gaining as much as an extra 35 per cents. Workers will also receive a 2.25 per cent pay increase on May 1, 2012, followed by a 2.75 per cent increase on May 1, 2013.

The collective agreement also includes an increase in annual vacation of up to three weeks after three years of service, and four weeks after eight years. There are also significant gains with regards to social leave and recall rights of occasional workers.

Lastly, both parties have agreed to begin the pay equity process in the coming weeks.
