CUPE members and locals across the country are responding to the crisis in the US in their very own heartfelt ways.

In Halifax, the members of CUPE Local 1028 who work at the Halifax County Regional Rehab Centre will be making a $200 donation to the Red Cross.

Now, $200 doesnt sound like a lot of money until you learn that most of the 100 or so members of this local are actually facing job loss come this November. The Rehab Centre is slated for closure.

CUPE is currently embroiled in a battle to secure severance pay for these mental health workers, some of whom have been at the facility for 27 years.

The members of CUPE Local 1028 are to be commended for their generosity of spirit at a time when they themselves are facing hardship and uncertainty.
