Very different visions of child care are being presented this election. The Liberals and Conservatives are both failing to build a strong, non-profit, public child care system. The NDP puts them both to shame.

The Liberals and the Conservatives have a similar agenda even though their rhetoric sounds different. Neither party will introduce federal legislation. Both will maintain the current patchwork system by handing out cash without accountability measures. Neither party will guarantee access or pledge against for-profit, big-box child care. In fact, the Conservative tax credit for capital investment will only encourage commercial chains.
There is a better, positive vision. The NDP supports making a child care system permanent through federal legislation, pledges to enforce national standards and make sure our tax dollars don’t subsidize for-profit Kid-Marts.
