Saskatoon: The union that represents municipal workers in North Battleford supports the provincial governments decision to conduct a judicial inquiry into the contamination of the citys drinking water.

Our members want to know the full story about what caused this tragic situation and what can be done to ensure it never happens again in this city or any other community across the country, says CUPE spokesperson Andy Iwanchuk.

Premier Calvert announced the sweeping inquiry yesterday, stating he will ask the Chief Justice to appoint a Queens Bench judge to head the indepedent inquiry.

CUPE National has been lobbying the federal government to enact strict drinking water standards to protect public safety. Currently the federal government issues drinking water quality guidelines to the provinces and municipalities.
