Antigonish – CUPE hospital workers in Nova Scotia will be handing out free hand sanitizers at the Highland Games in Antigonish this coming weekend, to raise awareness about Healthcare Acquired Infections (HAI’s), often referred to as ‘Superbugs’.
Under the campaign slogan “Help hospital workers fight Superbugs! It’s in Your Hands”, CUPE hospital workers will be handing out tens of thousands of free hand sanitizers at public events all summer, as well as literature on how the public can help in the fight through simple hand-washing and other measures.
They’ll also be handing out stickers and removable tattoos of ‘cartoon microbes’ to children to get them talking about the importance of hand-washing. HAI’s are actually the fourth leading cause of death in Canada.
The tour had been scheduled to stop at Stanfest last weekend, but the festival was cancelled due to the storm. A new tour stop for Guysborough County will be announced shortly.
