(New Glasgow) – Sixty unionized employees with the Town of New Glasgow have a new, four-year contract with their employer.

CUPE National Representative Betty Jean Sutherland says the new contract includes wage increases of:
• 3% effective March 1, 2009
• 3% effective March 1, 2010
• 2.5% effective March 1, 2011
• 2.5% effective March 1, 2012

Sutherland says CUPE Local 281 represents employees in Transportation Services, Environmental Services, Water Treatment, Fire Department, Mechanical Department, Parks/Recreation and John Brother MacDonald Stadium.

She says stand-by pay, clothing and boot allowances, tool allowances and seniority language have also been improved.  No Discrimination language has also been strengthened.
Sutherland says Driver Operators, Stadium Chief Operator and Recreation rates received adjustments in pay along with the economic increases.
