DARTMOUTH, NS – The Nova Scotia School Board Council of Unions (NSSBCU), which bargains on behalf of seven CUPE locals in the province, reached a tentative agreement through conciliation in the wee hours June 21. The council is recommending acceptance and the locals will now take the proposal back to their members for a ratification vote. The details of the agreement will not be released until all members have had a chance to vote.
This was the NSSBCU’s second round of provincial bargaining, which commenced in January of this year.
CUPE School Board Co-ordinator Kathy MacLeod says, “Bringing seven school board locals to one bargaining table was challenging but very uniting. We are pleased to be able to bring a tentative agreement back to our members before school gets out for the summer.”
The NSSBCU bargains provincially on behalf of 3,700 CUPE school board workers outside of Halifax. It represents employees in every job classification, other than teachers, in the province’s P-12 school system.
