TORONTO – CUPE Local One President Pauline Niles will release a series of expert reports on Monday, May 12, responding to the proposed sale of Toronto Hydro Telecom, a telecommunications company wholly owned by the City of Toronto through Toronto Hydro Corporation.

Toronto Hydro Corporation announced last January that it was considering selling Telecom. Since that time, Local One has asked the Hydro board to convene a public meeting where Toronto residents can have their say about the future of this valuable public asset.

While waiting for a response, the local commissioned reports from experts in the fields of telecommunications and municipal restructuring. Two of the authors, Prof. Robert Hebdon, McGill Desautels Faculty of Management and Prof. Andrew Clement, University of Toronto Faculty of Information Studies, will join Niles. A third report was prepared by The SeaBoard Group, a leading Canadian technology research and strategy consulting company.

CUPE Local One represents 27 unionized employees who work for Telecom as well as 1,250 employees of Toronto Hydro.
