Halifax - CUPE has ratified new collective agreements with two more home support agencies. The three year agreements are retroactive to April 01, 2012 with wage increases of 2%, 2.5%, and 3%.

CUPE National Representative Marianne Welsh who also serves as CUPE’s Home Support Coordinator says, “Local 3936 represents 120 employees at Lunenburg County Home Support Services Society in Bridgewater. We reached a tentative agreement on February 28th, the day that the McNeil Government introduced legislation that stripped the rights of these workers. These employees voted in favour of the new agreement on March 5th.”

On behalf of Local 4354 which represents 35 employees at Victoria County Home Support Services Society in Baddeck, CUPE National Representative Kathy MacLeod says, “The local reached a tentative agreement on March 3rd which was accepted by the membership on March 10th.”

Welsh says, “While pleased with the outcome of bargaining, Home Support Workers (HSWs) are troubled by the heavy-handed anti-labour tactics of government that targeted their sector.”
