St. Johns The only vote that will protect health care is a vote for the NDP says Canadian Union of Public Employees National President Judy Darcy.

Ms. Darcy, head of Canadas largest union will deliver that message tomorrow to delegates at the Newfoundland/Labrador Federation of Labour convention at the Hotel Newfoundland.

Jean Chretien gave tax cuts to business while cutting health funding to the bone, says Darcy. Stockwell Days government rolled back health care workers wages and blew up a Calgary hospital. There is only one political leader in this country willing to stake her future and her partys future on the fight to save Medicare and thats Alexa McDonough.

Newfoundlanders should not forget it was the Tobin Liberal government that helped to gut the provinces health care system, says Darcy. And they should not forget that Brian Tobin was in Ottawa when the federal government decided to gut unemployment insurance, cutting off thousands of seasonal workers and thousands of women.

The NDP is the only party that is prepared to say no to corporations and put $100 billion into health care instead of the giant tax giveaway the Liberals are promising, she says.

Ms. Darcy addresses the Federation of Labour convention Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
