Paul Jalbert, a CUPE Local 1048 member and special event worker, is heading to the Paralympic Games in Athens.

Hes one of only eight Canadians named to the national cycling team competing in the Games that will be held for disabled athletes after the Olympic summer games end.

However, Jalbert is responsible for over $4,000 in expenses to get himself and his three-wheeled road bike from Prince George, B.C., to Montreal for pre-Games training, plus transportation to Athens and back.

Money is one roadblock that Pauls community can help get out of the way, said CUPE BC president Barry ONeill. We encourage anyone who can donate to do so.

Local 1048 has donated $500 and CUPE BC matched with another $500. Famous Players, the Prince George Multiplex and other community organizations have been inspired to pitch in as well.

Support cheques should be made payable to Paul Jalbert. Donations can be mailed to: On the Road to Athens, c/o Wendy Moore, Prince George Multiplex, Unit 100-2187 Ospika Blvd. S. Prince George, B.C. V2N 6Z1.
