Sid Ryan, the Ontario President of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) will join striking members of Local 543 for a rally today, Monday, January 21, 2002 at 5:00 p.m. at Windsor City Hall. After the rally Ryan, along with members of the local, will proceed to a scheduled meeting of Council at

6:00 p.m. Ryan will be available for media interviews prior to the rally.

It’s evident that the politicians and bureaucrats in Windsor are attempting to make budget cuts off the backs of public sector workers. Where they really should be going to get the additional money they need to continue to provide quality public services to the Windsor community, are the provincial and federal governments.

Mayors from Canada’s five largest cities have, over the past few months, joined together in telling both levels of government that the health and well-being of cities matter, and that both levels of government should put additional dollars into ensuring that our cities thrive rather than decline,” says Ryan.
