CUPE National President Paul Moist has sent a message of support and solidarity to NDP Leader Jack Layton, who is fighting cancer.

Mr. Layton will be taking a leave of absence while undergoing treatment, and is recommending Nycole Trumel, National Caucus Chair and MP for Hull – Aylmer, be made interim leader.

Dear Jack,

On behalf of the 608,000 members of CUPE and all our staff, I offer our support and solidarity in your battle against cancer. You and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers during your recovery.

In your temporary absence, CUPE will continue working with the Party and the interim leader to build a better country for all Canadians.

Please know we are all standing with you and wish you a quick recovery.

In solidarity and friendship,

Paul Moist

National President
