HALIFAX – CUPE Local 227 will be holding two strike schools on January 28 for employees of the Halifax Regional Water Commission (HRWC).

The schools are being held at Cole Harbour Place. The first one begins at 12:00 p.m. and the second one at 3:00 p.m.

CUPE Union Development Representative Larry Power will be helping the workers prepare for a possible strike by taking them through the union’s strike manual. This includes details of how they would receive strike pay and benefits, picketing protocols, strategy and more.

ATTENTION PHOTO AND ASSIGNMENT EDITORS:

At 2:30 p.m. the workers will be prepearing picket signs.

The 225 water and wastewater employees voted 94 per cent in favour of job action in strike votes held on November 20 and are currently in a legal strike position, which means they can exercise their legal right to strike following 48 hours notice to their employer.
