WESTERN SHORE  Delegates to CUPE Nova Scotia’s annual convention are throwing their support behind the Stevedores with the Sydney Ports Corporation, members of UNIFOR Local 4624.

More than 200 CUPE leaders and activists from across the province passed an emergency resolution to work with the Cape Breton and District Labour Council and UNIFOR Local 4624, and support any actions of the Sydney Ports employees.

CUPE NS President Danny Cavanagh says, “Some of these employees have been providing dock services in Sydney for more than 50 years. This corporation’s decision to hire at least six non-union Stevedores seems to have come out of the blue and is an insult to these union members and their families.

“We join with the Cape Breton Regional Municipality in questioning this decision and urging the Ports Corporation to reverse it,” says Cavanagh.
