(St. John’s) – CUPE health care locals from across the province will be in Corner Brook this weekend to map out their strategy for provincial bargaining, set to begin this fall.

CUPE NL President Wayne Lucas says, “This group represents approximately 2,500 health care workers in eight different Locals. They’ll be debating and voting on proposed amendments for collective bargaining.

The delegates will be updated on current transition negotiations with two of the Health Boards as well as applications currently before the Labour Relations Board,” he says.

Says Lucas, “CUPE is hoping to commence bargaining with Health Care Boards in September of 2007. Our goal is to have a new contract before March 31st, 2008.”

The meeting is scheduled for March 24 and 25. Atlantic Regional Director Robert Chisholm will also be in attendance.
