St Johns CUPE Newfoundland & Labrador will hold its 31st annual convention in Grand Falls/Windsor, Monday, May 2 through Wednesday, May 4 at the Mount Peyton Hotel.

Convention proceedings will get underway at 9:00 a.m., May 2, with CUPE Newfoundland & Labrador President Wayne Lucas presiding.

A special conference of municipal workers will take place on Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., in the lead-up to convention. Location: Mount Peyton Hotel.

Among the issues being discussed and debated at convention will be the ongoing fight against P3s and further privatization of public services, taking on right-wing governments from Newfoundland to B.C., the move toward a not for profit child care system across the country, same sex marriages and many others.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees is Canadas largest union, representing over half a million working women and men across the country.
