CUPE social services workers in communities across Canada are preparing to come to our nation’s capital. They’ll be in Ottawa from November 21-23, 2007 to participate in CUPE’s first ever, National Social Services Meeting. The Meeting will be held at the Ottawa Marriott in the heart of downtown Ottawa, just minutes from Parliament Hill and the historic Byward Market. The Meeting will commence at 6:30PM on the evening of November 21st and wrap-up in the early afternoon of November 23rd.

There are many challenges facing the social services sector in Canada. CUPE members confront those challenges everyday in their workplaces, locals, and communities. Challenges such as inadequate wages, benefits and workings conditions, increasing workloads, chronic levels of stress and burnout, and workplace violence. These and other challenges facing the sector will be discussed.

The Meeting will provide a platform to share experiences, choose priorities, and develop strategies for working together and advancing our issues in our workplaces, locals and communities – making ourselves heard!
