Employees of Shiretown Nursing Home in Pictou and Ivey’s Terrace Nursing Home in Trenton have voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action.

CUPE National Representative Betty Jean Sutherland says, “The members of CUPE Local 2503 have now given their negotiating committee a strong strike mandate as a result of this employer tabling a number of concessions.

With conciliation scheduled for November 20, we will head back to the bargaining table with the goal of removing these concessions and reaching an agreement that’s fair for these employees,” says Sutherland.

CUPE represents just over 100 Continuing Care Assistants (CCA’s), cooks, maintenance, housekeeping and laundry employees at the two facilities, which opened in early 2012.
