First contract ratified by 100% of members

Fort McMurray, AB - A three-year, first contract that raises wages by over 18%, improves vacation, holiday pay and other benefits is leaving eleven employees of Marshall House happy they joined a union.

The employees voted 100% last week to accept the terms of the contract negotiated by the Canadian Union of Public Employees.

CUPE Alberta President Marle Roberts said the improvements show the benefit of unions.

As Canada’s largest union, we have members across the country doing the same work as the employees of Marshall House,” said Roberts. “We can put our expertise in the sector together with our bargaining expertise and create real improvements for our members.”

CUPE represents 35,000 members in Alberta and over 600,000 across Canada.
