After months of frustration, CUPE Local 2348 members at the Sara Riel Crisis Stabilization Unit in Winnipeg have set a strike deadline of Aug. 20.

These workers have been without a contract since the end of March and have continued to provide quality care for Sara Riels clients while their employer and the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority are negotiating a service purchase agreement that includes an expansion of services, said Sheree Capar, CUPE national representative.

In return, theres been little good will on their employers part. Theyve made an unreasonably low wage offer, no retroactivity and a cutback that equals two full-time positions.
