The regional health board in Red Deer, Alberta has learned what CUPE members have known all along.

After investigating the possibility of contracting out the laundry at the Red Deer Hospital, management has decided it makes good business sense to keep the laundry in-house.

This is a good news day for our members, said Chris Malyon, president of CUPE Local 838. We knew our in-house laundry was efficient and cost effective and the tendering process has confirmed it. We are competitive with the private sector.

CUPE Local 838 represents over 400 health care members in the David Thompson Health Region, including 35 full and part-time workers who work in the laundry at the regional hospital.
