WINNIPEG, MB. – CUPE Manitoba has given $10,000 to help enhance the children’s playroom at the new Manitoba Cancer Care facility.

CUPE Manitoba president Kevin Rebeck presented a cheque to the centre’s executive director, Barry McArton, on Aug. 10

Over the past decade, CUPE Manitoba has donated over $70,000 to help provide children and parents with comfort and relief while receiving treatment for cancer.

Darlene Gagnon and Elaine Wiebe head the annual fundraising effort during the division’s convention.

CUPE National President Paul Moist, who has a strong connection to this cause, attended this year’s presentation ceremony. Also present were CUPE Manitoba vice-president Mike Davidson, treasurer Gale Storoszczuk and coordinator Wally Skomoroh and regional director Sandra Oakley.

McArton and Dr. Sara Israels, a pediatric cancer specialist, expressed tremendous gratitude on behalf of the Cancer Care team.

Next year, CUPE Manitoba plans to make a similar donation to the CK-5 Pediatric Oncology Ward.
