School board workers in Cape Breton, N.S., headed to conciliation this week over the board’s plans to contract out cafeterias.

“Talks have not been particularly productive to date, with one major issue shaping up to be the employer’s attempt to get out of the cafeteria operations,” said national staff rep Kathy Macleod. “Wages and benefits are also in dispute.”

The contract covering the 1,400 workers expired April 1, 2004.
