TORONTO Instead of taking up the challenge to rebuild strong communities with strong public services, the Liberals have acted like Tories since their first budget, Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Ontario President Sid Ryan will tell the standing committee on finance and economic affairs tomorrow in Whitby.

At last years pre-budget consultations, we issued a challenge to Dalton McGuinty to join us in rebuilding strong communities, Ryan says. Since then, his government has been a profound disappointment.

Instead of strengthening public services, the McGuinty government is creeping toward privatization, especially in the health care system, he said. In areas like education, the Liberals have adopted the Tory strategy of issuing complicated and confusing funding announcements, so school boards dont really know where they stand.

The only area where theyre acting like Liberals Paul Martin Liberals, that is is in projecting huge deficits where they are actually likely to have surpluses, Ryan said.

He will address the committee at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 20 at the La Gala Banquet Centre, 65 Sunrays Street, Whitby.
