CUPE has launched a new initiative to press for a public sector-led renewal of Canadas social and urban infrastructure.

The Rebuilding Strong Communities initiative calls on governments at all levels to make public investments in public services, and promotes CUPE as a community union, well-placed to observe both the problems caused by years of cutbacks and to promote public solutions.

CUPE has launched a special website for the initiative, http://communities.cupe.ca/ with information about the initiative, an online action and the unions database on privatization.

Locals should expect information kits on Rebuilding Strong Communities by mail soon.

As part of the initiative, CUPE has declared Oct. 5th Communities Day. People from all walks of life and diverse backgrounds will unite to urge governments to reinvest in the public services that bind our communities together.
