(St. John’s) – Provincial bargaining between thousands of CUPE members and the provincial government will be heading to conciliation.

CUPE N.L. President Wayne Lucas says, “We have now completed the first phase of our bargaining which is our local issues and have today asked the Department of Labour to appoint a Conciliation Officer for our next phase.

CUPE has filed on behalf of all groups that bargain provincially, which are:  Health Care, School Boards, Libraries, Housing and Government House,” says Lucas.

Lucas says, “While our contracts are set to expire on March 31, now that we have filed for conciliation, the timelines from this point forward will be in the hands of the Department of Labour.”
