In Ontario schools working hard every day to support student success”

Toronto – With back-to-school around the corner, and already underway for some, Canadian Union of Public Employees’ (CUPE) education support workers are rolling out provincial radio ads today to let Ontario families know that they are in our schools working hard every day to support student success.

The goal was to remind Ontarians that education support workers who belong to CUPE keep our schools clean, safe and functioning, and they are an integral part of our young people’s education, said Ontario School Board Coordinating Committee (OSBCC) Chair Terri Preston. They are your custodians, school secretaries, educational assistants, library technicians, instructors, early childhood educators – and every other support staff you can find working for school boards.”

Media attention has been focused on the education system recently with talks of legislation and instability in the sector. CUPE members want people to know that they are there for the students who rely on them and that they will ensure schools keep running efficiently in the fall and throughout the school year.

CUPE represents over 55,000 education support workers in the province of Ontario.
