The Canadian Health Coalition has released a paper calling for a national pharmacare program for Canada. The full text of the paper, More for Less: A National Pharmacare Strategy is available at www.medicare.ca.

A national pharmacare program is an idea whose time has come”, says Paul Moist, CUPE’s national president. “Out of control drug costs are hurting our public health care system and they’re hurting our members at the bargaining table. This initiative is a priority for CUPE and we will do whatever we can to lobby provincial and federal politicians to put this program in place.”

The release of More for Less is the start of a national campaign. It builds on the National Pharmaceutical Strategy agreed to in the First Ministers’ Accord of September 2004.
