More than 100 cafeteria workers with the Eastern School District, Newfoundland, have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a new deal with Chartwell’s Compass Group Canada.

CUPE National Representative Ed White says, “The members of Local 4885 voted 95 per cent to ratify their new contract. The three-year deal contained significant wage increases as well as other improvements.”

Says White, “I would like to commend the Bargaining Committee for their hard work during a very difficult round of bargaining. In particular, I’d like to single out local president Elaine Wells who exhibited great leadership and grace under pressure.”

The 105 employees work in 42 schools. Their contract had expired May 31, 2011.
