BURNABY—The Canadian Union of Public Employees’ BC Division’s 47th annual convention begins Wednesday, April 21 and goes through until Saturday, April 24 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Vancouver. About 600 delegates are expected to attend the convention.

CUPE BC president Barry O’Neill will open the convention with an address to delegates at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, April 21. This year’s featured speaker at convention is Haitian labour leader Dukens Raphael, the Secretary General of the Confederation of Public and Private Sectors Workers of Haiti, who will speak to delegates at 1:30 pm on Saturday.

Other featured speakers to convention include CUPE National president Paul Moist (Thursday April 22 at 11:30 am), CUPE National secretary-treasurer Claude Généreux (Thursday, 3:00 pm), Federal NDP Leader Jack Layton (Friday, 10:15 am), and BC NDP Leader Carole James (Friday, 1:30 pm)
