BURNABY CUPE BCs executive board last night endorsed Carole James in her bid to become leader of the New Democratic Party in British Columbia.

We believe Carol James is the best person to lead the party into battle against the Liberals in the May 2005 election, acting CUPE BC president Mark Hancock said following a conference call with the executive.

We had a good relationship with Carole when she was head of the BC School Trustees Association, and we would like to build on it as we go forward with the NDP.

Hancock noted that James has a good sense of the sectors where our members work, particularly the K-12 school sector and social services.

Carole is a strong social advocate who stands up for communities, Hancock said. Our executive knows and respects her for that role and we are looking forward to working with her to keep B.C. communities strong.
